Standing Rock Sioux Artist, Carl Winters is engaged in a constantly evolving creative process that is rooted in his native
heritage. His creative spirit is expressed in a variety of mediums that include oils and acrylic on canvas, acrylic on
rawhide, deerskin and buffalo hide, and pastel, sepia and graphite on paper. An alumni of the Institute of American Indian Arts, and originally from Fort Yates North Dakota, Carl currently resides at Taos Pueblo where he maintains his studio. He has shown at galleries, exhibits, and museums across the country, and has received numerous awards and commissions for his work. Carl is also an accomplished musician and songwriter and finds it necessary to sustain both his art and his music in response to his creative energies. - - - " In my life I've had to face adversity and overcome obstacles while trying to maintain my focus as a creative individual. This has allowed me the opportunity to value diversity in my art, whether in the context of the medium, composition or technique. The human form has been a basic underlying element as well as the combination of symbology and spirituality.
